General Manager

We are seeking an experienced and adventurous professional to manage daily operations of our property at Race Brook Lodge. The position includes day-to-day oversight of transient and group lodging, retreat services, banquets and special events offerings. The position includes interfacing with guests & group clients, management of all hospitality staff, ensuring the aesthetic presentation and smooth operation of lodging, dining, meeting and event spaces, as well as common and outdoor gathering spaces on the property. Leading the team, improving, implementing and executing hospitality and operating procedures is an important part of this role. Job Description Summary: The General Manager is an important leadership position at Race Brook Lodge, overseeing all matters related to our lodging, events and group business and cultivating relationships with our guests.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provides professional and courteous guest service at all times

  • Develops short and long-term financial and operational plans for the hotel, which support the overall objectives of the company

  • Prepares the annual operating budget with ownership

  • Monitors the performance of the hotel through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and monthly financial reports.  Initiates corrective action when necessary

  • Implements and maintains local and national sales/marketing programs, in coordination with the marketing/sales team and promotional partners.

  • Establishes and maintains a pro-active Human Resource function to ensure employee motivation, training and development, wage/benefit administration, and compliance with established labor regulations

  • Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops other managers and staff; manages schedules and workflow

  • Maintains product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints.  Initiates corrective action when necessary

  • Establishes and maintains applicable preventative maintenance programs to protect the physical assets of the hotel

  • Maintains a security function, which protects both the assets of the hotel and the personal safety of employees and guests

  • Implements and maintains effective two-way communication systems which crosses departmental lines and reach all employees

  • Develops new programs which result in an increased level of guest satisfaction and operational excellence

  • Manages in compliance with established company policies and procedures

  • Manages in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations

  • Respect for the Earth and a desire to seek a harmonious coexistence with nature.

  • Experience in hospitality, food & beverage operations and event coordination

  • Previous General management experience preferred

  • Thorough understanding of hotel and food & beverage financial management

  • Advanced computer proficiency and ability to learn new software and technical tools

  • Experience in hotel Property Management Systems and restaurant POS systems, Microsoft Excel & Google Docs.

  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication practices

  • A positive attitude and an interest in hospitality

Qualifications

  • Respect for the Earth and a desire to seek a harmonious coexistence with nature.

  • Experience managing a team

  • Significant hospitality experience, both in lodging and food & beverage

  • Basic understanding of hotel and food & beverage budgeting and financial reporting

  • General computer proficiency and ability to learn new software and technical tools

  • Specific experience in Quickbooks, Google Docs, Hotel PMS and restaurant POS

  • Attention to detail, good organizational and communication practices

  • A positive attitude and a dee interest in hospitality
