The Late Risers perform "hot Jazz" music of the 1920s-40s, covers of popular modern tunes and original compositions. Whether playing at night clubs, swing dances, Great Gatsby-themed costume events, parties, weddings, or while strolling the streets of downtown Boston, the Late Risers elicit smiling faces and dancing feet from their audiences. Simply put, their music brings people together.
The Lucky 5 is a hard-swinging jazz band that blends swing and gypsy jazz to create a unique, foot-stomping blend of music that appeals to a wide range of music lovers. The Lucky 5 performs both original compositions as well as putting a new spin on old jazz standards. The Lucky 5 brings verve, high energy, and an unpredictable impulse to the tradition of jazz from the 20's, 30's and 40's, grooving deeply, and keeping feet moving on the dance floor.
Swing instructors Andrea Byrnes & Andrew Selzer from the Boston swing dance community will give a lesson at the beginning of the event. Andrea and Andrew met dancing Lindy Hop in 2014 and have since traveled to countless national and international competitions and festivals for Lindy Hop, Balboa, Solo Jazz, and Shag. They are both passionate about dance technique, history and education, regularly teaching Lindy Hop classes in the Boston area with Boston Lindy Hop and Boston Swing Central. They take special joy in spreading a love and appreciation of swing dance to others.
