Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma of Greece

Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma of Greece

Master musicians Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma of Greece will be coming to North America during a teaching residency at the 1st Annual Labyrinth Workshop in Toronto in May 2018.

Celebrating the artistry of these masters, musician and music educator Michael K. Harrist will be producing a series of concerts in the Northeast U.S. If you are interested in highlighting Daly and Thoma's music within your calendar of events, open concert dates are May 16-21 2018.

Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma are world-class performers, but also servants of the music and believe in its ability to touch souls and connect people.  Ross is the founder of Labyrinth music workshop in Crete, which connects masters and aspiring musicians over the summer months.  Both Ross and Kelly play contemporary modal music on the Cretan Lyra, Tarhu, Afghan rubab, saz and more.  They come from the Cretan/Turkish traditions, but also touch upon Persian, Balkan, Azeri, Indian traditions and many more.

"World music has always been an ineffectual and patronising term. Yet here it had a glimmer of new meaning as Ross Daly and Friends took us on a journey into a new world - even for those with some knowledge of eastern European and Middle Eastern music. An oasis amid the wasteland of arid, bloodless sounds, it was lush with exotic instruments and time signatures, original and traditional compositions, precise ensembles and meaningful improvisations." ~Reviewed by John Shand
