My House is The Mountain featuring Sasha Dobson, Jesse Murphy, Gabriel Gordon & Aaron Johnston will perform in the Barnspace at Race Brook Lodge on Thursday March 28th… Local singer-songwriter Simon McTeigue will perform an opening set
My House is The Mountain: Harmony, melody, strumming guitars, bouncing bass and lilting rhythms are as old as the mountains. Although in modern times, capturing that carefree sound without intent takes more than a clever plan. It takes time, age, intuition and a family of friends who have been making music together for most of their professional careers.

Daughter of Bay Area jazz legends, Smith and Gail Dobson, Sasha Dobson has carved out quite a name for herself as both a jazz singer and singer-songwriter. Hailed by MAGNET as “raw and compelling”, Dobson’s album, Aquarius (2013), was recorded with guitarist/producer Joel Hamilton (Black Keys, Tom Waits, Sparklehorse). After years of playing and touring around the world together in Norah Jones’ band, the two women decided to start another band together. With the addition of Catherine Popper on bass, Puss n Boots just recorded their second album recorded at Wilco’s studio The Loft, engineered by Tom Schick set to be released in 2020. Sasha is gearing up to record her 3rd solo album of original music this Fall of 2019.
Gabriel Gordon toured the world in Natalie Merchant’s band multiple times. He also recorded 9 albums with Norah Jones and just completed another US tour with her last summer. He has also toured and/or recorded with Andrew Roachford, Mousse T, Heather Christian and the Arbornauts, James Kakande, Soulounge, Astrid North, Light Blue Movers, Wax Poetic, Nightshades, Laurie Anderson, Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, Jimmy Ray, Teddy Richards, Nena, Myra Flynn, Yasmine Hamdan and many more. Currently based in New York, Aaron Johnston splits his time between being one of New York City’s top session drummers and playing shows with stars like Ana Torroja from the band Mecano or people like Natalie Merchant, to performing with, recording and producing a variety of artists in New York, including his band Brazilian Girls. Johnston most recently toured with David Byrne on his Utopia world tour. Aaron has also played with Desmond Child, the Pete Escovedo Orchestra, Anger's Heritage Project (featuring Willie Nelson and Mary Chapin Carpenter), Mike Marshall’s Choro Famoso, Andy Narell, Sheila E, Omar Sosa, Katoja, Harry Belafonte, Angelique Kidjo, Me'shell Ndegeocello, Wax Poetic, and Latin pop star Thalia.

Simon McTeigue always wanted to write songs. It was never about Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, John Prine or Joan Baez. It was about the girl at school or the sunset on the rolling hills in western Massachusetts. “It wasn't until a few years of studying classical guitar that i asked my teacher what a C chord was, and although i had a small repertoire of classical compositions i will never forget the pure excitement i had shifting my fingers from a C chord to a G. With that my poems became songs.” Simon lives in Sheffield MA where he takes inspiration from living simply, working hard, and the natural world, where he loves to be the most.
