Randy Kaye Tribute Jazz Brunch

Join us Sunday May 26th at The Stagecoach Tavern, for a special Jazz Brunch birthday tribute to legendary Berkshire drummer Randy Kaye, with music by John Sauer, Pete Toigo & Conor Meehan.

  • Two shows: 11am and 1pm

  • Live music 12-3pm on the porch

  • $10 cover for music

Randy Kaye was known for his unique and innovative approach to percussion and jazz drumming. Kaye began playing professionally when he was only 15, making the rounds at famed NYC jazz clubs like The Village Vanguard. He played with many amazing musicians including Paul Chambers, Jaki Byard,Perry Robinson,Dave Izenson,Sheila Jordan,Jimi Hendrix,Bobby Naughton and Jimmy Giuffre. While he frequently toured and recorded in europe,Randy called the Berkshires his home for over 30 years until his passing in 2008.

John Sauer (Keys) performs jazz, classical, and popular music, has been Berkshire musician since the late 1960s. Sauer has a B.A. in music from Antioch College. He accompanies dance at Williams College, and Jacob’s Pillow, and was Music Director for the Berkshire Public Theatre for 15 years. John collaborated with Randy Kaye in many settings, playing hundreds of gigs over the course of 30+ years.

Pete Toigo (Bass) has been performing in the Berkshires since the early 1980s. He’s also performed across North America, Europe and Japan, amassing an extensive discography along the way. He began his long association with Randy Kaye in 1982, playing in groups led by Randy as well as the trio Realtime. They are featured together on Joe Finn’s 1992 recording Straight Ahead.

Conor Meehan (Drums) is a versatile drummer currently based in New York City. As an in demand sideman, Conor has appeared on over 40 recordings and has toured extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Brazil. He has performed with Charles Neville (Neville Bros), jazz legend Reggie Workman, and John Medeski & Chris Wood (Medeski Martin & Wood). Since 2005, he has held the position "Artist Associate of Jazz Drums" at Williams College and has also served as a clinician at numerous summer institutes including Jazz in July at UMass and Interplay Jazz Workshop. Meehan’s early percussion study came under the tutelage of none other than Randy Kaye.

The Stagecoach Tavern at Race Brook Lodge offers a seasonal menu with a focus on local ingredients from Chef Laurel Barkan.
