DCSC: Rami El Aasser & Brandon Terzic (with Special Guest Haleh Gafori)

  • Down County Social Club Race Brook Lodge Sheffield United States (map)

Rami & Brandon are members of the band Alsarah & The Nubatones, stopping at Race Brook Lodge before performing with Alsarah at the Unifier Festival in Tolland MA this weekend. Rami & Brandon will also be joined by Haleh Liza Gatori.

Vocalist, poet, and translator, Haleh Liza Gafori will share new translations of poems by the Persian mystic and sage Rumi, from her book GOLD RUMI, released by NYRB Classics/Penguin Random House. Accompanied by Brandon Terzic on oud and Rami ElAsser on percussion, she will recite in English and sing in Persian, offering glimpses into the astonishing rhythm, rhyme, and wordplay that propels Rumi’s original poems.

The dynamic tapestry of poems, chants, stories, and music uplifts and transmits the ecstatic spirit of Rumi’s poetry.

Rami El Aasser

Rami started out drumming in the Liberty High School Grenadier marching band of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania but always had an Egyptian tabla in the closet. Since 1999, Rami came to find great teachers of this music in Egypt and Turkey and also around New York City. Brandon Terzic

Brandon Terzic first immersed himself in the world of Blues music. Then he sold all his guitars and flew to Israel, traveling onward to Egypt and Cyprus. It was during this time that he began playing Oud in the old city of Jeruselum, getting enough inspiration from the people and the experience. Since then he has performed in the states and Internationally, traveled to Morocco and Senegal studying music, and playing with many incredible Musicians, including Alsarah & The Nubatones, Tomchess, Matt Kilmer, Matt Darriau, Rufus Cappodocia, Shane Shanahan, Luke Notary, Hassan Houkmoun, Peter Slavov, John Shannon, Gilad Dobrecky, Mal Stein, George Stathos, Sylvain Leroix, Tom Rossi, Max ZT and many many more.
