Loosely grounded in the Americana tradition, the Joint Chiefs are not an “act.” They’re an experience. Over a smoldering instrumentation that weaves percussion with guitar, mandolin, accordion and bass, the Chiefs unleash an acrobatic vocal awareness. While in flight, the three lead vocalists take turns driving… swooping and ricocheting across a broad song scape that mixes well-known songs with unknown songs, and songs they write themselves. They have appeared regionally with national acts (Rodney Crowell, Eliza Gilkyson), at concert venues (Infinity Hall), festivals (Clearwater, Winterhawk), and are a fixture of music programming throughout the Northwest Corner. Nominated for a 2022 Rural Intelligence Reader’s Choice award (“best local band” category), their third and most recent CD, Sending up a Flare was recorded with Grammy winning engineer John Kilgore in New York City.
