The Michael Junkins group will embark on a Detroit-themed Jazz and R&B journey in the Down County Social Club… closing out the night after the Boondock’s Film Society screening in the barnspace at Race Brook Lodge featuring the ‘90s cult classic Grosse Pointe Blank.
Michael Junkins discovered a love for his instrument at an early age and has been dedicated to the pursuit of improvisational music and jazz as an art form. Over the past twenty years, he has had the opportunity to perform and study with many well-known and talented musicians throughout the Northeast and in Philadelphia. Before relocating to New England, Michael lived and worked for almost a decade in Philadelphia and attributes his time there, to the development of his unique and very personal musical style. He studied music at Duquesne University with Bill Purse, as well as the University of the Arts with Tom Giacobetti and Jimmy Bruno, but his biggest influence and musical growth came from his close relationship with Blue Note recording artist, and mentor Steve Giordano. Michael was also the co-founder and director of the North Ridge Music School, a private music teacher on the faculty at Ancillae Assumpta Academy, and active within the Philadelphia community as a performer and advocate for music and the arts within his community.
In his new home in the Berkshires, Michael is actively involved with many jazz ensembles; notably “Mood Swing”, the “Berkshire Jazz Quartet”, the “Michael Junkins Group”, and the“Berkshire Eagles Stage Band” and can be heard in multiple venues throughout western Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut and New York.
