On Wednesday February 28th, Kids Club maven Melanie Willins will be joined by Laurel Lenski i of Intrinsic Movement for a class in Creative Movement.
Creative Movement is an invitation to learn through observation and play! All ages and abilities are welcome in the session, which engages participants in movement exploration, rooted in basic movement vocabulary, imagination and emotional expression. Through creative movement children develop self-awareness; improve communication and collaboration skills; build confidence; enhance emotional regulation and practice understanding and empathy.
Parents can drop off their little ones anytime between 3-8pm and enjoy time at the Campfire, sit and get some work done, or take a late afternoon hike to the waterfall, or a have a relaxing dinner. Adults are also welcome to stay and participate in creative projects and hang out with the kids. Kid-friendly food options will be available and The Stagecoach Tavern restaurant is also open for adults to enjoy a quiet dinner nearby. Food for kids and adults will be available starting at 5pm. SCHEDULE:
3-5pm: Energetic play time and activities in the Race Brook barn.
5-6pm: Food available. Collaborative Creative Project or specific presentation by a visiting collaborator.
6-8pm: Games and freestyle creative time.
Drop-off Creative Kids Club & Childcare prices:
$25 for each child per session or $40 for 2 kids (3+ years old / Good for 3-8pm)
$100 per child or $150 for 2 kids for the whole series (up to 8 sessions).
Younger kids are welcome to participate with a parent or guardian present.
Sliding scale donation ($5-20) for younger kids or kids with their parents present who will not need child care.
Melanie Willins, M.Ed (aka “Melanie Poppins”) leads the Creative Kids Club programming at Race Brook Lodge. She is an educator who loves fostering children's curiosity and creativity through informal learning and exploration. Melanie has been working with kids for over 20 years and enjoys developing community connections for families in the Berkshires. As a Child Development Specialist, she supports families and schools through her business, Melanie Poppins Consulting and on Instagram.
Laurel Lenski, a Berkshire native and owner of Intrinsic Movement, holds degrees in Dance and Expressive Art Therapy as well as a certification as a Nia White Belt. Her passion to share the therapeutic powers of dance, movement and expression are present in her approach to facilitating client groups throughout western Massachusetts. She enjoys engaging each participant and meeting them where they are at, in the moment.
