The Temenos Center for the Arts invites you to the 1st annual Festival of Pie at Race Brook Lodge — a celebration of deliciousness, craft, community, and communion. Bring a pie for free entry, or just bring a hungry tummy!
The evening opens with a Community potluck and Shabbat ceremony, and then flows into a potluck and pie fest, with live music from the amazing Moroccan vocalist Lala Tamar & Zachi Asher on Oud. Pies compete for four non-hierarchical awards: Heart of the Matter, Honored Ancestor, Weird Wild & Whacky, and People’s Choice.

Lala Tamar is a vocalist, musician, and winner of the New Israel Fund's Grant for Essential Arts. Born to Jewish Moroccan-Brazilian parents, she is an independent artist and researcher in the fields of North African, Ladino, and Andalusian Jewish music. She plays percussion and Guembri, composes, and writes original music rooted in North African Jewish and Muslim feminine traditions. She created the first album ever recorded in the lost language of Haquetía (Moroccan Jewish Ladino), performs and creates with award-winning choreographer Orly Portal, and leads North African women's sacred singing workshops around the world, working mostly between Israel and Morocco.
Rabbi Zachi Asher, is the Founder and Creative Director of the Temenos Center for the Arts, a New York non-profit that creates projects, wisdom, and ceremonies at the intersection of spirituality and the arts. He is a composer, oud player, and bandleader of the Epichorus, an ensemble performing new music rooted in classical Arabic maqam and Hebrew poetry, with three studio albums and a book of stories to their name.
